La Krehe Casa

We closed on our house today and will be moving tomorrow!!! We really like our neighborhood and will only be moving 1.69 miles north of our apartment so hopefully it will go smoothly. Joe came down with a stomach bug this morning so say a prayer that it is just a 24 hour bug and he will be up and moving tomorrow.
Here are a few pictures of the house. This furniture belongs to the previous owners. It will be much emptier for a while. :)

Excursions

We will be able to book excursions through the resort when we arrive. The link below shows many of Playa del Carmens attractions. Take a look and post what sounds fun in the comment section.

What to Pack???

A few essentials...

1. sunscreen and lipbalm with sunscreen

***the ecoparks Xel-Ha and Xcaret require biodegradable sunblock. It can be purchased at the parks. I included a link below that has some brands. I does have to be applied more often than regular sunscreen.
2. insect repellent
the humidity and jungle surroundings make a bug paradise

3. wide brimmed hats
a sunburned scalp is no fun, a wide brim also protects your face

4. Sunglasses with UV protection

5. Aloe Vera

just in case...

Please post any other must haves in the comments section.

Sorry Gentleman...

Guys...I am sorry to let you know that the ala' cart restaurants require gentleman to wear pants. I know, I know it is not fair that the ladies can wear dresses, but that's the silly rules. This means that unfortunatly the guys will have to pack pants to wear for Friday nights rehearsal dinner at la Hacienda Mexican restaurant and and Saturday nights wedding dinner at the la Gondola the Italian restaurant. Feel free to wear shorts to the wedding and change into pants for the dinner.

Luggage

Many airlines have height and weight stipulations as well as new fees for checked baggage. I added the baggage information links for several airlines below. Please check your airline to make sure you are aware of the stipulations. If your airline is not listed below, the airline website should have all the information you need. Also, make sure you are reading the guidelines for international travel. I noticed some airlines had different stipulations for different countries.

AMERICAN AIRLINES

FRONTIER AIRLINES

UNITED AIRLINES

US AIRWAYS

Money, Money, Money

How much money should you take??? Keli advises $100 a person per day if you are planning to leave the hotel that day for excursions, food and souvenirs. Otherwise...on the days you are staying at the hotel everything will be included. The American dollar is accepted most anywhere. It is safe to use your credit cards at the resort, but anywhere else you should consider using cash.

Just In Case

Our friend Ashley travels out of the country often and gave us a little tip. She said it would be a good idea for everyone to make a photocopy of their passport to leave here in the states. In the event anyone loses their passport they would be able to have that copy faxed to the airport. Just a thought. We made our copies today! Thanks for the tip Ashley.

The Water in Mexico...to drink or not to drink

I talked with Keli, the travel agent about drinking the water in Mexico. She said the resort water is supposed to be on a filtered system. She said she showered, brushed her teeth and even had ice in her drinks and never experienced any problems. However, she DID NOT drink from the taps.

Iberostar Tucan and Quetzal???

For all of you who have wondered...Iberostar Tucan and Quetzal are the same hotel. They are considered twin resorts and they share the same amenities. From what I have researched the rooms are very similiar with small differences in color and decorations. Claims to which side is the best varies from traveler to traveler. SO... I have decided that either side will do and requested that our rooms are as close to one another as possible. :)

Here are some photos of the property for you to enjoy!!! I love to look at them!

Safety in Mexico

By now, everyone has heard about the drug wars effecting Mexico. If you are like me, I am sure there is some stress and apprehension about the trip. Joe thinks worrying is a waste of time, so I was put in charge of doing it for the both of us! ;) After talking with Keli, our travel agent, and doing my own share of research I am feeling much better about the safety in Mexico. People are continuing to travel and the violence is generally in the border cities. I am posting a site that I visit often... www. tripadvisor.com. After you are on the webpage search by Iberostar Tucan. Scroll down and click on the first title Iberostar Tucan, Playa del Carmen. This will bring you to the page with the reviews of travelers who have just returned from the resort. Happy researching... I hope it brings peace and excitement about the trip!!!

con amor,
Carrie
